The author, Jo Marchant, takes a look into different methods of mind and mindfulness methods that have for sometime been looked down on by the scientific community. The book challenges the theories behind placebo effects, fight or flight responses, meditation and religion to name a few. Marchant investigates the clinical trials that underpin these theories and discusses with research scientists how the theories work in terms of different illnesses.
This book is aimed for people that are interested in the science and research behind more alternative methods of illness treatment. The book does not explain how each of the alternative methods can be undertaken, but rather when these methods have worked and how. The book is easy to read and brings up some very interesting alternative treatments and results.
