Snacks, Snacks Everywhere

Going through chemotherapy for the treatment of bowel cancer can be a real bitch. You look for anything to curb the side effects. Drink lots of fluids, sip fizzy drinks, consume as much ginger as you can. You are given drugs a plenty to try and push the nausea aside, but for me this simply didn’t work. I am currently four different nausea medications; Metoclopramide, Dexamethasone, Ondansetron and Nausicalm. None of which have yet been able to help with the nausea.

Snacks on the other hand seem to work wonders, even if they are not exactly the healthiest of options. Anything from chips, chocolate biscuits, mints and lollies. For some reason these foods seems to give me a bit of relief from the nausea. I must look like the most unhealthiest person during my pre-chemo shopping trip. My trolley is loaded with all these goodies to get me through my ‘bad’ week after a chemotherapy cycle. I used to feel like I was doing something wrong by eating these foods. I felt that I should be loading my body with good, healthy options. I try to do this for my main meals, eating streamed fish, vegetables, eggs, soups and mushrooms. But many people have told me to eat whatever my body will tolerate and what makes me feel better.

So snacks it is.
